Gary Jackson is a man of many hats, but they all fit squarely on his head. He’s a data scientist, a world-traveling comedian, a TEDx speaker, and a proud Knoxville TN AND Asheville NC resident. But really, he’s a storyteller—whether he’s using data to analyze human behavior or a microphone to make a room full of people laugh.
He’s a born problem-solver with a background in data science, and AI, a field where he’s led global initiatives and even co-wrote an entire magazine issue with artificial intelligence. His work has taken him around the world, from the tech hubs of Asia-Pacific to the stages of London and Johannesburg. Maybe that’s why he cannot decide on which city is his home, Knoxville and Asheville.
As the founder of several comedy clubs, Comedy Cebu in the Philippines, Women Come First Comedy Club in Hong Kong, and Comedy Mayhem at the Mezzanine in Colorado Springs, CO. His most recent is Hip to Be Square Comedy Club in Knoxville where he is bringing top-tier talent to Knoxville’s intimate venues. He’s on a mission to prove that comedy can be smart, funny, and accessible without being crude or offensive. He believes that stand-up, like data science, is all about patterns, empathy, and the courage to see the world from a different perspective.
